ARLINGTON, VA, April 13, 2023, J. Michael Daniel has been inducted into Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Daniel is the president and chief executive officer of Cyber Threat Alliance (CTA), a non-profit information sharing organization, where he has excelled since 2017 as a cybersecurity expert. As CTA’s first president, he helped launch the organization that had been founded by six prominent cybersecurity companies. Currently, Mr. Daniel thrives on the fresh challenges inherent to the avid pursuit of a public service mission from a non-profit perspective.
A long tenure in the cybersecurity arena is foundational to Mr. Daniel’s current leadership role. Specifically, he has accumulated ample applied experience through nearly 22 years of service in the federal government. He first developed a deep interest in the cybersecurity field while working for the Office of Management and Budget. He further honed his expertise through serving as Special Assistant to President Barack Obama and US Cybersecurity Coordinator between 2012 and 2017; in that role, Mr. Daniel also served on the National Security Council staff. In these distinguished roles, which he counts as his most notable professional achievements thus far, Mr. Daniel helped craft and fortify the US government’s emerging cybersecurity policies.
By extension, Mr. Daniel also led the development of a presidential executive order that called for a cybersecurity framework corporations could deploy to enhance their own cybersecurity standards, a landmark project whose results are still in use today. Additionally, he remains proud of the significant influence he had on national security procedures while affiliated with the Office of Management and Budget as the branch chief from 2001 to 2012 and as the program examiner between 1995 and 2001, through which Mr. Daniel capably assisted in the allocation of funding for cyber resources in an era when awareness and priorities surrounding cybersecurity were only emerging.
Notably, Mr. Daniel boasts stellar academic achievements, earned from prestigious institutions, including a Bachelor of Arts in public policy from Princeton University. He also completed the rigorous Master of Public Policy in national security at Harvard Kennedy School and holds a Master of Science in National Resource Planning from the National Defense University. Mr. Daniel also maintains a comprehensive professional peer network through a sustained membership with the Forbes Technology Council, the World Economic Forum, and the Aspen Cybersecurity Group.
An engaging and knowledgeable speaker, Mr. Daniel is often invited to share his expertise with an array of audiences, including the community of technology professionals and executive leadership teams; he is especially adept at distilling the complexities of cybersecurity into more accessible discourse to communicate vital information to an organization’s broader population. His vision for the future involves a cooperative effort to enable cybersecurity providers to better protect their customers and to enable the disruption of online adversaries’ malicious behavior. Moreover, Mr. Daniel seeks to advance the overarching mission of Cyber Threat Alliance to raise the level of cybersecurity across the entire digital ecosystem.
